In Pixels We See

Overview

An experiment with colour. Simplify a painting down to solid pixels that never blend, and the picture still arrives.

Posters

The Mona Lisa, Witches' Sabbath, the Birth of Venus, the Creation of Adam, Water Lilies. Each one is only the colours it is made of, squared off and laid flat, with nothing left to do the drawing.

Goya Witches Sabbath as pixels - greys, blues and rust - with the painter and title set down the left edge
Monet Water Lilies as pixels, greens and lilacs spread across the whole sheet
Michelangelo Creation of Adam as pixels, the two hands buried in pale blocks of stone colour
The Botticelli poster curling over the edge of a concrete step, its blocks running dark red and green in the shadow
Botticelli Birth of Venus as pixels - sand, sea green and shell pink - lying flat on concrete
